The triumph of mediocrity.
It is the most implacable of the anti-muses.
If it cannot corrode the perfection of the actual,
It can, undetected, corrupt the sense of it.

de Lambert

de Lambert was a passive voice of the reconstructionist school, and a contemporary of de Rouchefoucauld. His best work was output during the period of the effete salons of the eighteenth century in the countryside surrounding Paris. None of his longer work survives today, but he is quoted in part by contemporaries. His aphoristic, didactic style, the echo-like glimpses of inner reflection, is remniscent of the early classicist Hellenistic period, characterized by the dramas of Eumenides, and is considered neo-protean. Blake, Tennyson, and Pope and are all scions of the school of de Lambert.
