If you take the idea of "total solutions" to its logical limit, AMAT would build the whole FAB using only AMAT equipment and guarantee production. An ambitious idea that is extremely difficult if not impossible to realize. Even if achievable, will a customer ever be ready to completely give up control on processes and R&D. Intel's approach of best of breed and copy exact will be as close to AMAT's ambitions as we get. Best of breed gets difficult with expanding product lines. Another WAG.
