RESEARCH ALERT-First Albany cuts Applied Materials rating

NEW YORK, April 28 (Reuters) - First Albany on Monday said it cut its investment rating for Applied Materials Inc. (NasdaqNM:AMAT - News), the world's largest maker of microchip production equipment, to "underperform" from "neutral."
"It appears to us that the leading companies in semiconductor manufacturing, such as Intel, Samsung, and IBM, are trying to minimize their dependence on Applied Material's equipment," analyst Auguste Richard said in a research note.

Shares of Applied Materials closed at $14.19 on the Nasdaq Stock Market (News - Websites) on Friday.
