In Canada, there are very few independently owned newspapers anymore, as even the smallest town newspapers belong to giant national/international conglomerates. By small towns, I mean very small. If they have a newspaper, they are most probably in the "group". It's efficient, you know, because these small papers can run articles from the parent, not having to worry about research, view point, etc.
