American students are less motivated???

They don't study, JFS. There is a direct correlation between work and success. Go to any college on the weekend and walk into the library. Take a good look at the makeup of the kids there, as opposed to the makeup of the school.

RE:is it because foreign students are more qualified or American students are less motivated???

Both, American students are less qualified because they are less motivated. At least, from my observations having been in MANY countries, the average young American tends to think that mommy and daddy should provide for them forever much more so than in other cultures.

Hard telling. Public education in the U.S. is a disaster. The more money that's thrown at it (a humongous amount that continues to grow), the more functional illiterates it churns out. Those who do survive the system and go on to attend institutions of "higher learning" get what remains of their brains fried by the politically correct loony leftist tenured nutballs who infest most of said same establishments, at least in the "liberal arts" and "social sciences".

It's a damn good thing that we have lots of foreign national grad students studying in medicine and the hard sciences here to supplement the few members of the U.S. younger generation who follow this career path. Their productivity and creativity enrichens all of us. America is lucky that this "brain drain" from other countries exists.

Well, I can tell you what my son tells me. That is this: The American University he goes to seems to PREFER foreign students over Americans at the graduate level. In case you think he is sour grapes, I should tell you he graduated from H.S. in the top of his class, and got his Undergraduate Degree WITH HONORS and his Master degree also WITH HONORS. Whether what he sees around him is only prevalent with that major university or not I cannot say, but that is what he is seeing now. jdn
