LABOUR MP George Galloway is facing a possible parliamentary inquiry into allegations he took cash from Saddam Hussein.

House of Commons standards watchdog Sir Philip Mawer is considering a probe after receiving a complaint from a Tory MP.

Galloway says he will sue The Daily Telegraph over allegations he was secretly in the Iraqi dictator's pay.

But Conservative MP Andrew Robathan has written to the watchdog saying "it would be extraordinary if this issue were to pass without investigation by the House of Commons".

He added: "An MP is alleged to have been in the pay of a foreign dictator when we were awaiting war with them

"I see a lot of smoke at the moment about litigation and libel, and I don't see any action."

Galloway pulled out of an anti-war meeting in Aberdeen last night, saying he was meeting his lawyers.
