theoretically.

They changed the system in L.A. County finally.
Now they send you a summons with a date to appear.
There is an automated telephone system that allows
you to defer, etc. You then call in at 7:00p.m.
each night for 5 days to see whether you're needed.

My service started 4/21.
I wasn't told to report until the 25th.

If I failed to report, they could
order me to court to show cause why I failed to
do so. If my excuse isn't good enough, the fine
is up to $1500.

I have yet to hear of anyone actually being dragged
in for an OSC. But they do keep talking about it.

I don't know what the procedure is in your state.
I imagine they won't come for you in the middle of
the night.<g>
