Oregon terror suspect charged in federal court

PORTLAND — An Oregon software developer has been charged by federal officials with conspiring to aid al-Qaida and the Taliban by allegedly trying to travel to Afghanistan in the fall of 2001 to fight against U.S. troops.
The case against Maher "Mike" Hawash, 39, was detailed yesterday in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court. It alleges he traveled to Hong Kong and China and sought to join five other men in an abortive effort to enter Afghanistan. (more)
