Post Position - PacePosition - RacePosition

Ten Most Wanted, the Illinois Derby winner, and Arkansas Derby winner Sir Cherokee are the ONLY two entries which have races from more than five lengths back.

All the others want to race on or near the lead.
This similarity of style guarantees lots of traffic problems during the entire race .......
start - the turn - back straightaway - the whole danged race should be full of problems for most everyone.

Historically, the Derby is won by the horse with the best 1/4 run from the 3/8 pole to the 1/8 pole.

I suggest that a rewarding wagering method for THIS Derby will be to handicap the race as if it were an eighth of a mile shorter than it actually is.

LLLefty,

I would leave him out completely if he drew 20.

He may be a budding superhorse, but he hasn't demonstrated that to me yet. In the Florida race, the speed (Trust N Luck) fell apart and the rest of the field was weak. IMO, that was a good performance, but not as good as the margin indicates.

In the Wood he may have won with something in reserve, but that was no world beater 1/2 length behind him.

IMO, he's the type of horse you "should" be looking for in the Derby, but unless a horse has demonstrated superiority over the crop with powerful wins over quality horses, he shouldn't be bet like he already has.

I think he's not much better than a few contenders if he's better at all. He may just be more likely to step up and improve further. I'll pass on 7-5.
