John,

Saudi Arabia does not represent any kind of immediate threat to the US. In most things that matter they have been an ally to the US, albeit a reluctant one.

I believe sooner or later the House of Saud will fall on it's accord. The royal family is hopelessly corrupt, negligent in matters of State and is fracturing internally even as we speak. Incredibly, they've bankrupted their country and only manage to keep it afloat based on loans against their future oil sales.

Worst of all they've created the seeds of their own destruction with the religious Islamic theology of Wahabism. Wahabism is an extreme Islamic philosophy that has little tolerance for deviation from traditional Islamic practices.

Family Saud deviance from Islamic practice is world renowned and they are depised by the new fundamentalists they helped create. It's no accident that so many of the 911 suicide bombers emanated from Saudi Arabia or that Osama bin Laden wanted to destroy the House of Saud. Once the US leaves the region these groups will concentrate their efforts on undermining that government.

I wouldn't bet 10 cents on the Saudis being in control 10 years from now.
