There were 3 newspapers in the country, and they all carried the same stories, word for word, under different bylines. There was also an unbelievably effective grapevine, and that's what people believed

Iron curtain countries had similar problem. Most citizens didn't believe the government or its media.

So far, I've only heard of the communists publishing a newspaper in Baghdad since it fell.
