Anyone else happen to see and hear this? If so what was your take?

I saw a good bit of it. Powell is really in a unique position. If he resigned and announced that he was running for Prez on the Dem ticket, they would nominate him by acclamation. So both sides of the aisle in the Senate handle him with kid gloves.

Powell knows that a lot of what Gingrich said is true. I am sure he would like to shake up State, and his number two is working on it, I have no doubt.

I can't decide how much of the leaks we get on the neocon/state fight are about differences at the top, and how much are low level guys fighting for position. But it is the most interesting battle that we know of in the Admin.

The lead story out of DC today seems to be the AIDS funding. The political kicker will be the condom battle. The Repubs look bad to the swing voters by opposing the use of them to fight AIDS. "UPI"

The White House spent much of the day Tuesday pushing on behalf of the administration's five-year, $15 billion global AIDS initiative. In the East Room, George W. Bush spoke on behalf of the effort to an audience of congressional leaders, members of the ambassador corps and, in the president's words, "fellow Americans who care deeply about a neighbor in need." Later in the day the Coalition for AIDS Relief in Africa, led by former U.S. Reps. J. C. Watts and Eva Clayton, released the list of CARA's charter corporate supporters.
