As for the assertion that the big media is leftist, take a look at Eric Alterman's new book, What Liberal Media? Here's the Amazon url. amazon.com. I see a rising and contentious right wing presence in the media in the obvious places, having a long term effect on the mainstream media because of their commercial success and a short term effect by throwing around "unpatriotic" charges. Where this all ends up is hard to say. Where the great unwashed middle America is, that's hard to say. I don't think they are racial or homophobic bigots and that will cause the Reps some grief. I think they want serious government support for health care, for social security benefits, for pension regulation, for environmental protection, you know the list. But right now the Bush game plan is to refocus them on the war on "terrorism." Take a look at John Judis new book, The Emerging Democratic Majority, for this argument.
