Lol..to suggest I should provide a nickel of my money to eric alterman...that is beyond reality.

Might try the poor person's alternative to Amazon. Called the public library. I do. Regularly. Works.

The great unwashed middle is people like me. We are in total disrespect of everything on the left, but you may only see this in hind sight. The lefts top down metrics for planning everyone elses future is caught in the reality of a backlash that started with the shifting of communism to the milder socialism, this path once begun will not end until all that is left is the ism at the end.

I think you are making a large mistake here and that's letting your personal political preferences and wishes get in the way of reading the direction of political affairs. You and I would, clearly, wish to see US domestic stuff go in different directions. And the strength of those wishes make it hard for us to look at all this somewhat pragmatically. I'm afraid, and I gather you know this, the political population is not like either of us. Right now I find it very hard to read. The best argument I have found is the Judis argument. But it's really an argument about long term trends (which is what you are talking about). Short term trends, like who gets elected in 04, are, imho, much harder to read right now. The war and terrorism just play too large and too unpredictable a role. But, of course, the fun of it all is in the guesswork.
