Check out the Cuba statistics sometime at the CIA World Factbook:

cia.gov

and compare them to other Caribbean countries. You will be surprised -- I was. They compare favorably to those of the US.

Somehow its always Cubans "fleeing" but when it is Mexicans or El Savadorans or Guatamalans etc risking their lives to come to the US, they are trying to better themselves.
