We are all victims of the way we have been raised. In your case, you're very fortunate your Grandmother remained calm, and helped teach you the importance of not acting hysterically.

My daughter watched "Wizzard of Oz" and after that for about two years, if she heard the word "tornado" she ran to the basement. She was really petrified, although I tried to calm her, she was sure she was going to be blown away.

The earthquake really didn't frighten me, there was nothing I could do about it, anyhow.
