Iraqi political groups meet on forming government
(Updated at 1330 PST)
BAGHDAD: A group of prominent Iraqi political leaders were on Thursday trying to thrash out how to set up an interim government under US sponsorship within one month, a top Kurdish official told a western news agency.

Massoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), one of the two main Kurdish factions, said five former Iraqi opposition groups met in Baghdad late Wednesday as Iraq's new political process comes to life.

The meeting discussed the steps needed to fill the political, administrative and security vacuum, he said.
