The article is no surprise. It says that government tends to be overly secretive and tries to cover-up lapses in security. It's a real leap to say that it gives credence to any theory that the US did 9/11 or that some part of the government did it.

Many of the posters claim that OBL was a CIA tool. If so, why even put your quote in a memo?

I don't think there are right wingers who claim Clinton did it. They may be saying that the lapses in security are the fault of the previous administration. IMO, there is enough blame to go around. You won't get any argument from me that the government is bloated and that bloat is detrimental to our safety.

The fact that there are so many investigations and investigators, particularly in the press, makes it impossible for a conspiracy advocated by this thread NOT to come to light. What is being hidden or attempted to be hidden is just how bloated fiefdoms within government have become and how that can harm our security.

BTW, Donald Rumsfeld's attempts to make the military efficient is an example of how difficult that task is, given power struggles. He seems to be winning.

The simple explanation being the one that is typically the best means, in this case, that the conspiracy is merely one to cover up inefficiencies and waste. To take it to a theory that our government would intentionally kill thousands of its own citizens for some weird approach to the price of oil or to build up war fervor is just totally whacked.
