Politicians react late - they aren't leaders [they follow the crowd from in front, checking over their shoulders to make sure they are at the head of the parade]. While the Iraqi smoke is settling down and people get on with the real business of fighting over who gets the money from the oil, there's a big problem looming. Sure, Sars isn't as spectacular as 911, live on tv, complete with people jumping to their deaths, but it's just as fatal. There's only one Osama and some wannabes. He doesn't double daily, mutate and slip through unnoticed at airport security, to kill by the million. Sars does. When people see their parents, spouse and children gasping for breath and in many cases dying, they'll get serious. But it's too late once you are on a ventilator. If there's a ventilator available. They should ignore North Korea for now. Let them have their nukes for now. Focus on the serious business. If Koreans or politicians get Sars, they won't be worried so much about nukes. They'll be busy trying to breathe. Mqurice

A coworker of my father in law, a technician from Britain, died last week suddenly after suffering from flu-like symptoms. State officials came in, did a cursory investigation, and left. He worked with my father in law for a straight week in close quarters. If the guy had SARS, and my father in law was infected, it would have been absolutely devastating. My father in law could have spread it to my mother in law, who is head of housekeeping at a 4 star bed and breakfast on the interstate, in their busy season. My brother in law goes to college at Penn State's satellite campus in Hazleton, and is chef's assistant at the bed and breakfast. My other brother in law is in middle school. One family would have spread it to countless others, who would have spread it, through patrons of the bed and break, across the interstate and all over the country. Yikes! Derek
