This raises some interesting guidelines issues, Bill.

Another Bill poster raised the issue of my seemingly conspiratorial view of the wink and nod stuff the Reps do in the South. My take on that, for purposes of this thread, was, as you no doubt saw, that was a premise of my analysis of their political strategies. I was happy to debate it as strategy but your thread guidelines suggested we not debate the morality of the issue or even, for that matter, the policy implications. Only the political ones.

The same will obviously be true about the Santorum stuff. However, it's a tough mix.

Perhaps the best thing is to simply plow along and find some guidelines as we go along, admitting that analysis of political prospects inevitably and healthily moves into areas of the value of the policy outcomes as well as their morality. But that you wish to keep the focus on the pragmatics of politics.
