Furthermore, Greenspan has to walk a very difficult line here. Cut rates and continue to intervene in the financial markets (yes, it's clandestine), and let the dollar fall risking problems at the foreign exchange; or hold on the rate cuts, reduce the intervention, and prop up the dollar to encourage continued foreign investment. Lesson: Poop happens (eventually and more severely) when you continue to mess with the market by artificial means. We'll see how it all turns out. But I'm not expecting it to be a pretty sight.
