it's easy to post one anecdote and claim that it is "possible" as you do

What? I am saying it is possible because Patriot Act says so, not because of some anecdote!

[Patriot Act] Permits non-citizens to be jailed based on mere suspicion and to not be allowed readmission to the US for engaging in free speech. Suspects may be detained indefinitely without charges or court review even if they have never been convicted of a crime.

How about recognizing the problem of security and coming up with a solution?

All recognize the problem of security. The solution cannot be locking people away indefinitely, with no rights, no contact to even a lawyer, and no need to even charge them. Life is not binary, you know. There are a lot of possibilities between not even taking people in for questioning and locking them away and throwing away the key.
