There is no single soundbite solution to issues like this; designing policy, funding it and implementing it are complex tasks. That's why I never listen to talk radio shows on topics like this, they are just soundbite-slanging matches.

Moderates would naturally look for balance between security and not undermining principles that are fundamental to the freedoms we are trying to protect. Detention without legal representation and clear charges is antithetical to the American system. Allowing it to persist undermines our democracy while adding little if any security.

As for countries comparable to the US in size, you would find that getting into Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Mexico and India as a foreigner is probably very easy (I know that South Africa is). China is the only place I can think of that would present more of a challenge. Australia and Canada are probably similar to the US.

You can't exactly call ex-Zaire a country now. I'm sure Nigeria is a piece of cake too.
