Not quite.. You'd definitely need a visa to enter India, Pakistan etc. Only couple of exception in India for people from Nepal and Bhutan.. Americans, westerners will pay dearly for visa fees mainly because people from these regions pay pretty high fees to get visas for the west..

I have a friend who is currently doing business in Russia and he is required to have a visa for each visit. The visas are restricted to a short period of time, and take a couple of weeks to obtain each time. I don't know how hard it would be to just "disappear" once there.
I don't think he wants to, though. :)
