Compare the early Jan '03 bottom with this one. Perhaps the cascade is coming up? XAU, HUI holding well despite the PPT calvary(maybe they should read Custer's diary!). -g-

i still think you are putting the horse before the wagon,
irony of irony ,europe certainly has serious problems but they are further in the future americas are firmly in the present and wont go away soon.
europes rigid markets have sheltered it from the exesses that PLAGUE the us and to a lesser extant england.even rampant tax evasion in italy can be used as an exmple, there are tons of cash under the perverbial materess and if you dont pay taxes you cant show income to apply for loans. pensions are also looking better than americas now atleast a gov can inflate and has not invested your pension in stocks. europe may not relish the idea of a strong currency, but they are getting it because the us is so screwed up.again, europe will want to inflate in the future to cure its problems, then gold will really shine.
do not be lead to believe that the US is controlling the game, nobody is.
The uk economy has serious problems, among them are private pensions based on the stock market, consumer debt , a real estate bubble and an under financed national health system.
