Perhaps. I don't have enough contact with Europe to be in tune with their moods. Much of world's politics is decided by Realists (political sense not everyday usage). In that sense, UK is being maximalist while France is being minimalist. In short, France & Co think banding together against the top dog protects them best, while UK thinks sucking up to the boss is the best way to move ahead. I don't like either view, but then again I am not in charge of world affairs.

Never heard a bad word spoken of English but then it was never part of any subjects in the first place.

I had a grandfather who was born in County Cork and married an English Girl in Montreal in 1900. His Mother-in-Law would get on him about the superiority of the English, and he would finally say, "Ireland was Ireland when England was a pup, and Ireland will be Ireland when England is done up!" and stalk out of the house for a beer.

>> Never heard a bad word spoken of English<<

A couple of friends of mine who were second generation Irish were very antagonistic towards the Brits. Still angry about the Potato Famine and all that.
