It's a sort of "It's the economy stupid" times here - how much social services / universal medicare / unemployment / old age rents can one afford on a sound basis. The fact is LESS for all save for unemployment of course, but then the equivalent of the Not-In-My-Backyard syndrome is kicking in all over the place. Plus Kirch who went bust about a half a year ago to an app. amount of 5B€, seems to have had everybody on his pay roll. The list reads like who's who of Kohl era. Kohl was on the list too.
