Maximum you could have done was saying: Elmat, how do you compare a policial state like the US vis a vis a poor country where children are destitute and not cared about by their parents? You, see, you'd be: Stating that you have a concern for destitute children Making think about the advantages of a policial state vs. a freer country Being polite (because if we do that what you are saying to children, imagine what I could possibly do to your carcasse) Trying to learn more than by hearing someone who was in a foreign country once in a while.
