Looks like their Free State joint venture has led to the obvious conclusion, a merger. Makes sense, new 4m+ ounce producer, lots of reserves, NYSE listed.

Harmony was doing great job diversifying outside RSA, getting close to completing acquistion of Abelle (ABX.AX), but now will be more dependent on RSA and its strong rand.

It's a mixed blessing, but a reality for long-term survival in the risky gold business.

The other interesting press release:
harmony.co.za

ARM/Harmony acquired 34.5% of AVMIN, which owns 42% of AVGOLD, which operates the new Target Mine in the Free State area. Maybe they could/will swap AVMIN shares for control of either AVGOLD or the Target Mine ??
