Interferon has about as many nasty side effects as steroids, plus being expensive to make. A 10 x interferon dose would be yuckky...

However, anything that even slows SARS sown should push the death rate down significantly.

If anything currently existing is found to work, there's enough biotech production knowledge and some spare capacity to ramp up to large volumes of drugs in 6 months or less.
