WAG: Cable companies are taking a ~33% GM (greed?) on the unit; $500 -33% = $335 SFA selling cost. SFA is taking ~25% GM on the unit; $335 -25% = 251.25 COGS? Just speculation with nothing to back it up.

Tivo's $12.95 a month per stand alone customer goes a long way to subsidize no profit on the machine. I wonder what the incremental cost is for each Direct TV customer? I think Tivo is only getting ~$2.50 per month gross.
