Yiwu, I'm fairly tolerant of ignorance, because I have so much of it myself, but it's scary to think that Americans with such limited knowledge are voting to decide the fate of the world, including me. With a bit of luck, the ignorant votes will neutralize each other, leaving the swing smart votes to determine electoral outcomes.

The benefits of living in a vast democratic community are so great that I'm okay with forgoing the advantages of more freedom. Being a prisoner of the collective isn't totally bad. But I would NOT want to be a prisoner of the Indian collective. They've voted for Karl Marx since turfing out the British Crown. Bad choice!

Democracy with a passport seems a good combination. Heaps of people have abandoned New Zealand and gone to Oz, USA, Canada, China and elsewhere. Kiwis are like Sars - they spread everywhere given half a chance.
