That's an activity engaged in by folk who sacrifice much, put themselves in great danger, and get little or no support from established governments.

Here I go playing Devil's advocate again. You know who is doing the most of that? Missionaries! The right looks upon "the kind of thing Michael Ignatieff did," as PR puffs for the Altruism crowd.

The left tends to view Human rights work globally as a Media campaign, where you go to a country and speak out and write about abuses, and try to shame the Government into making changes. The right tends to view Human rights work as shirtsleeve capitalism, where you use private funds to leave a structure that lasts.

What we are doing in Iraq is against the concepts that Bush ran on. "Nation Building!" But 911 left us no choice other than to do it. Iraq, like it or not, is a "Human Rights" program in process.
