my take is that an extremely ugly war is proceeding behind the curtain with USA and Saudi Arabia
we were probably ordered out of Prince Sultan Airfield
but were given the courtesy of putting the spin on it ourselves

my guess also is that the Iraq War was motivated more for oil and airbases, since Sultan was a temporary home for air force weapons of mass destruction

and we were told that if we attacked Iraq, we would have to exit Sultan asap

Saudis are rumored to be big TBond sellers and USStock sellers

perhaps a grand deal was struck with the corrupt Saudis
we might have wanted to ease Fundamentalist pressure on the Royal Family
so we found a way
our Sultan exit surely helps the Saudi regime

I am reminded of my friend Amer's comment about Saudis
he lived in Riyahd for a few years when a kid
his quote:
"I have never met a Saudi who ever worked a day in his life"
that is worth remembering
