Karen, if you wished to debate the relative merits of something you call "capitalism" with something you call "socialism", we could do so, depending on Bill's views as to how well that fits the point of the thread. If so, please offer your views and I'll be happy to offer mine. I'm not a defender of socialism but would be willing to do so for purposes of conversation, if you wished. My own political/economic preferences are for capitalism with appropriate regulations from the state and broad based safety net arrangements within the context of a liberal democracy with minority rights embedded in a constitution. In short, pretty much the US system with some tweaks. Moreover, my views have more do with the role of the state than the economy.

But this has little to do with the supposition that Karl Rove is Machiavelli resurrected. ;-(
