<<until they see it actually happening>>

The Ministry of Information and Communication has granted South Korean cellco SK Telecom approval to merge with its WCDMA arm SK IMT. Under the conditions proposed by MIC, SKT must provide 3G -based services in the 2GHz band with backward compatibility by end-2003. MIC also insisted that SKT's 3G service roll out plan and equipment procurement plan be submitted for approval.http://www.telecoms.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=telecomsportal/render&var_element=content/article_simple&auth_pubcode=informatelecoms&var_article_id=1034683262204&display_channel=home&rdsl=true

doesn't say how much service, and it will be interesting to see the chipset competitions in the various rollouts this year. The Koreans recognized the industry positions and likely outcomes long ago.

Slacker, You’re correct in the most of the “analysts” are in a “show me” mode as regards Qualcomm and that they are indeed awaiting traction in WCDMA before granting them any “slack”. Perhaps when we start to see 2 million in WCDMA handset sales per quarter we may be at the turning point.

As far as the “analysts” being burned in the tch wreck, that's true also but I wouldn’t mind having Qualcomm even trading at NOK’s PEG of 1.55 (1.55 x 20 = 31PE x $1.40 = $43) or TXN’s PEG of 2.30 (2.30 x 20 = 46PE x $1.40 = $64).
