it's still enough to make me wonder about the degree to which a more hands-off policy in the Midle East, at least for the time being, would be beneficial America's long-term interests. 25 years ago, there probably wasn't a Muslim populace in the region more vituperatively anti-American than the Iraninans. Now, after a whole generation's grown up under a government that considers itself a staunch enemy of the US, the inverse is increasingly true.


That has been my point too. The corollary to the "enemy of my enemy rule" is that "friend of my enemy is my enemy too". Given that, our support of regimes who are loathed by their own people has gone a long way towards hatred of America. The Iranian people know nobody interfered with their lives, so their politicians cannot hide behind the mask of America made me do it.
