re: Google
In Silicon Valley, the Mountain View company is the hottest private company around, with a good shot at becoming a business legend like Netscape, Apple or eBay.

Today, the company says it handles 200 million searches a day and, according to some estimates, about 75 percent of all search-engine-generated traffic to Web sites.

The company is also a rare reminder that there is financial promise in the Internet. Google, with 800 employees and growing fast, won't disclose its finances. But speculation within the industry is that Google will ring up $400 million to $700 million in sales this year, most of it from using technology to target relevant ads to Web users. The company says it has been making money since December 2000.

BTW I am sure they look like they are bleeding red ink if you expense options, which is a real thorn in the options expensing debate.

We're buying gear like crazy. Digital photography eats hard drive space, processors and memory in the extreme. It spreads out to our clients (first to the designers and then to the final client) because they're the ones taking delivery of the images. Right now a lot are trying to get by using slow solutions like storing everything on CDs, but they are going to discover what all of us are discovering, that you need big fast disc storage and it's cheaper to buy a new machine then work on the old one.

A four year old PC isn't worth fixing.
