Intelligent Machines

c2po,

From Ray Kurzweil's book "The Age of Intelligent Machines", (slightly edited <g>) published in 1990:

1977

* Steven Jobs and Stephen Wozniak designed and built the Apple Computer.

* Voyagers 1 and 2 were launched and radioed back billions of bytes of computerized data about new discoveries as they explore the outer planets of our solar system.

* The Apple II, the first personal computer to be sold in assembled form, was successfully launched.

* The film Star Wars featured 3CP0 and a galaxy of other imaginative true-to-life robots with a wide spectrum of convincing human emotions. C3PO's predecessor was c2po, an unimaginative, not so intelligent, not so handsome, 1st effort dud created in 1952.

NO HO'S tried hard. Coach Brown & AI had their number. Maybe next year.

If you watched any of it (I noticed your silence), it was great entertainment. My hat is off to Paul Silas.

The Hornets this year reminded me of the Sixers of a few years back that played very wounded and somehow made it to the NBA finals against the Lakers. This year the Sixers are healthier than they have been in 3 years, but they are neither as talented or as gutsy across the board, as they were back then. AI is smarter. more versatile, and more team oriented, but has a bigger load to carry. A finally healthy Eric Snow and Aaron McKie contribute every game, but Coach has to wonder every night whether anyone else will show up, particularly Van Horn. Sports scribes here breathed a sigh of relief when we got by the Hornets, because of the size mismatch, and are projecting an easier series ahead against Detroit. I'm not so sure about that, but our season has been extended.

Was it your words or mine? Whatever it was, it certainly generated a stream of googoled consciousness.

I just wish Nokia would get their utms act rolling in a forward direction, but that might be a bit too much to asked, at this stage of the game.

"I just hope somebody realizes what a great coach Paul Silas is. He showed it in this series. I think this team is a reflection of him. They had a lot of things going against them and to make it this kind of series is a credit to what he's done." - Larry Brown, Coach, Philadelphia 76ers -.
