That's always been a red-flag with so called self-proclaimed money managers, they 'tell' people what to buy and sell; clients are wise to seek true investment professionals at that point (if they really need one). Don't worry about me doing DD though on publicly mentioned stocks and companies (all of them for that matter), that lesson was learned early on, before my career actually started. Thanks for the words of caution anyway, though your client may be better served. Good luck to you.
