Well, John, to hear the Silicon Valley proponents tell it, the owners of these companies have no right to a return on their money. As you said, first the employees should get their largess, then if anything is left over, the owners can take it. Unfortunately, with very little left over for owners, more and more owners are deciding to withold financing of these ventures that don't return anything to them. Keep that up and the only source of funding will be debtholders, who also require a return on the money they lend. Don't pay them and they take away all your assets. So what's a Silicon Valley company to do? LOL.

Now, maybe someone looking at the system purely as an owner, like that duffer Buffett, well, maybe he wouldn't appreciate all the philanthropic obligations that some seem to think ought to come with the title "shareholder". But me? Well, rather than be conned out of wealth, I prefer my generosity to be of the old fashioned kind. I'd rather just give it away than try to kid myself it's making me wealthy.

Well John, you should take your money and invest in Berkshire Hathaway then. That choice is offered to you, is it not? Nobody is forcing you to buy Cisco of course.

But we both know why you want to impose Buffett's rules upon Cisco. You want the same thing Buffett wants, the ability to participate in the enormous growth that real entrepreneurialism creates (the REAL inventions, not just operations excellence ala Buffett)... without the risks associated. You want the workers at Cisco to be happy with crumbs just like the workers at Coke... but YOU, as a shareholder want to reap more rewards than you can get from Coke, OR for that matter Berkshire Hathaway. And thats what this is all about, and since most tech insiders (the mid level workers not just the executives) realize this you have a fight on your hands.
