if the US dollar well and truly melts, just how are you going to get to vancouver? by hiking? with a rucksack of gold on your back? 'cause you sure as heck ain't driving.

Did either of you notice that when they searched Saddams palaces they found silver boxes filled with US dollars as of the present they've found nearly 2 billion worth. Much has been written about the EURO being an alternative to dollars, the russian mafia is said to be converting their holdings from dollars to euro, of course we dont know whether they will or not. As an investor who cherishes scarcity, as a key component of value, its important to know where the demand side of the value equation is before accepting the risks associated with holding any scarce items, before you buy. In addition you must always remember that just because you know where the demand for your scarce items might be, timing your purchase to coincide with known demand is critical. Otherwise you'll end up like those folks who bought gold and silver in late 70's and until last year couldnt find a buyer for their acquired scarcity. Bad timing I guess. Why did saddam stash dollars? Why not gold? You already know dont you? But you said that : "$US is the most crowded trade in the history of the world... when it melts down gold will soar." Reread my entire post again and decide wether you still believe what you stated.
