Well, to be honest, though I think the left-wing loonies here tend to stretch the truth of the Bush situation (I think in Kenny's case he simply tells lies), Bush is softer with common voters than he perhaps thinks. I don't think the average guy understands his economic strategy enough to comfortably ride another bump in the road. And that bump is certain to come-- fairly soon.

Speaking strategically, Bush has to get mushy and demonstrate that he feels the average guy's pain. He needs to do something to show a willingness to use his power to help average people, should the going get rough. I don't think he has accomplished this, and people will perhaps soon begin to express doubts as to whether he can relate to their circumstances. His numbers are going to erode precipitously if the left continues to hammer him on how he has 'done nothing about the rich's corporate scandals except give them a tax cut,' and on how he is 'trying to destroy the low-income working poor who take the Earned Income Credit." (what an idiotic thing to have the IRS say!!! LAWD a MURCI!!!)

There is really no great problem at this juncture, but if Bush does not move now, and no later, it will begin to spin out of control. Once the public turns against you, the physics of the thing has to play out.
