"So far this year, Canadian dollar has risen a record 11 per cent against its U.S. counterpart, outshining its previous annual record of 9 per cent in 1988.

The loonie’s gains came as the U.S. dollar was again trading lower against both the euro and the yen on Monday.

“It is worth noting that virtually every currency in the world tacked on roughly a 2-per-cent gain against the beleaguered U.S. dollar last week, so it certainly was not a lone story of loonie strength,” BMO Nesbitt Burns senior economist Douglas Porter said."
