No explanation.. I wish I had access to a Globex system engineer to figure out how their hardware architecture works and then I'd be able to give you some solid answers. I glanced at their network specs (what they provide on their site if you're potentially going to connect up to them) but it obviously doesn't say anything about their own internal system. I bet you they're revising all of their testbed suites to handle high-thruput traffic scenarios that have data spikes associated with them.

Certainly that means I'll be liquidating all Globex positions before 11:00am eastern time every day. :)

Come to think about it, if anybody from Globex came and told me about the innards of their systems, I'd probably never trade on the platform ever again out of fright.

Some idiot left a dangling ask of FIVE HUNDRED contracts on the Hang Seng at 8877 (this is a huge offer size, the largest I've ever seen traded on the contract) and it got chipped away slowly, and then I, when the ask sized dropped, chipped away at for a couple contracts.. when the guy who left that ask there discovers what a mistake he made after the lunch session he'll have to cover back long again and take an absolute hit. I'll be dumping end of day no matter what. 500 contracts is just an insane amount to be left on the Hang Seng.

The HKFE does have a block trade facility that should take care of this kind of stuff, but it's obvious that somebody screwed up here.
