Takes one to know one? No.

I mean if some straight up dude who is ugly points to someone who is (also) ugly and says "wow, that dude is ugly", chances are the second dude is really ugly.

Same with greed.

As for Buffett piping up at this stage? He's always on a rant about something. Check back 20 years, you won't find a period in which he didn't have something to say.

This time he's ranting on about stuff that people actually have an inkling about. Normally folks don't have a clue about how they are being robbed blind, and listening to banker-babble isn't top on their agenda.

But after having had their pockets picked clean of everything but the lint, folks are starting to understand what's going on. Excessive compensation, agency issues, malfeasance, fiduciary duty, Black-Scholes, ... in 1995 most people couldn't properly spell these things, let alone entertain a discussion about their meaning.

It's more like mainstream thought is predisposed to understand what Buffett is ranting on about this time. 'Bout time. Too bad it took so long, but if history is any guide, it won't last. And he'll go back to quietly [well, noisily but with nobody listening] making tons of money while folks who think they're so much smarter don't.

Go figure.

John
