That wonderful Frank Geary designed cultural amenity has taken what was a dilapidated urban landscape and debased tax area and created a remarkable renaissance. Bilbao was an urban wasteland, a slum with no future without a creative vision for a cultural amenity. There was no manufacturing future that could have done to Bilbao what the Guggenheim Museum did. It brilliantly got my rich sister and her family to travel there and dump a couple of G's. That couldn't have happened if they tried to revive the corn husk broom factory. Which would have been about the best they could have hoped for with a good basic educational reform program in town. Museums work. They are part of the modern recreational tourist economy. Guggenheim is to be applauded and praised for its wise decisions, including the construction of the museum in Rio. The Guggenheims are a family I've made a bit of a study of. They are among the finest examples of humanity extant. They put the Murdocks and the Bushes to shame. Following on with Jay's vulgar description of a desolate future, "if he were king", the Guggenheims have been noted as friends of unions, always paying above prevailing wage scale, treating their staff and workers with dignity and decency. Why people have the stupid notion that the right thing to do is what Bush wants to do, destroying communities for the sake of greed, is totally anathema to my being, and totally not supported by the results of history. When unions are destroyed, wages are destroyed and idiots like George Bush can have their way, the result is devastation for society. Greed does not work, when it comes to running a society. It only works to consolidate wealth in the hands of a criminal class like the Bush Family Enterprises.
