Re: The lawmaker also said the Corps' proposal to replace the Halliburton contract with another long-term deal was at odds with administration statements that Iraq's oil belongs to the Iraqi people.

Would that we all had the perspicuity of the Honorable Henry Waxman...I have not.

Neither the inexactness of war nor the demands for security would justify our failing to plan for control of the oil infrastructure. Likewise, failing to include in the bridge contract the mechanism for converting crude and gas to a medium of exchange benefiting the Iraqi people would unnecessarily delay the accrual of these benefits to these same people for which Congressman Waxman expresses an interest.

In a paragraph preceding one in which he penned several phrases now known as " The Man in the Arena", Teddy Roosevelt penned these words of wisdom:

"... There are many men who feel a kind of twisted pride in cynicism; there are many who confine themselves to criticism of the way others do what they themselves dare not even attempt...." geocities.com

Any openminded person will find an adequate response to Mr. Waxman's expressed concerns in the last few paragraphs of this article: edition.cnn.com
