To: carranza2 who wrote (40 ) 5/7/2003 1:11:20 PM From: marcos Respond to of 261 Politics is such a zoo ... here we've just gotten through a dispute over land use, involving the regional district level of government, that would be like county level in the US, and with a provincial ministry .... i just kept getting freshly amazed at How Things Really Work, at several turns of the story, when the outcome was never seriously in question, all our opponents had to work with were stalling tactics, this was pretty clear from the legislation and previous ministry rulings .... but, stall they did, very effectively .. we couldn't figure out at first how two people in widely separate positions would take the identical slant on the issue - turns out they used to work together, also campaigned side by side for a candidate of a previous provincial government ... then it all made sense <sigh> I don't know that much about the federal politics of any of these three nations ... never followed any of them as a whole, or gotten familiar with all players/positions .... never felt the need maybe, or maybe never felt capable of understanding it anyway -g- ...... real life takes place on a far more person to person level, and the occasional news story of the strange bedfellows politicking just provides entertainment mostly, it's like watching a movie in which you're an extra but they don't send you a cheque, you have to send them one One of my favourite facets of el DF is la caricatura mejicana, it's absolutely libertine, they savage everybody, no sacred cows there can long escape the hamburger machine .... the US and Canada have some decent cartoonists, more polite arguably but still biting .... cubanos don't have any of this, and they should
