According to unaudited figures to be released in Spantel's 10-QSB for the period ending March 31, 2003, the company had profits of $120,833 versus a loss of $688,827 compared to the corresponding period in 2002. The Company will also report sales of $4,002,089 versus $2,248,322, an increase of 78%. In comments made by Spantel's President, Jose Ramon Basterra, he attributed the turnaround to a focus on both growth and cutting costs. Mr. Basterra said, "Spantel has focused most of its resources on increasing and strengthening its customer base through an aggressive telemarketing effort and an extremely effective marketing campaign." He went on to state that "Spantel's customers realize that the products and services we can offer them have the same or better quality of our competitors, but at substantial savings." Additionally, Spantel has implemented spending controls and reduced staff across the board in a successful effort to streamline operations and saving the company considerable expenses. During the past year, Spantel derived most of its growth through the use of a well trained telesales staff, supplemented by the use of outside vendors. Management's plans include further strengthening of the Company's financial position that will enable it to generate further growth through acquisitions. Mr. Basterra emphasized that "many in the telecommunications industry have suffered greatly over the past two years due to a variety of factors. During this same period, we have seen our numbers strengthen in rising traffic, increased sales and stronger margins.
